History of Tool and Die Makers Lodge 78
District 10, Of The
International Association of Machinists
And Aerospace Workers

Lodge 78 has a long history in the labor struggles of the Greater Milwaukee area.
Presented here is a copy of the preamble of the Bylaws written to charter Lodge 78, March 2, 1944.

"BYLAWS OF TOOL AND DIE MAKERS LODGE NO. 78"
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MACHINISTS AND AEROSPACE WORKERS
PREAMBLE

"To cope with the ever changing industrial complex and so that members engaged in the tool and die industry
maintain and perpetuate their recognition as highly skilled craftsmen, the Grand Lodge, on the 2nd day
of March, 1944, chartered what is now known as Tool and Die Maker's Lodge No. 78, IAM, AFL-CIO."

"We, the members, are not only proud of this recognition, but are equally cognizant of the many responsibilities
and duties that we assumed under our charter. To help carry out these responsibilities and duties in an orderly
and democratic manner, we have caused the following Bylaws to be drafted and we pledge ourselves to
compliance with the provisions therein contained."

Carefully reading this gives us a sense of the history of our local Lodge 78 and tells us that we can't
allow our hard earned labor rights to be carved away by those who do not have the commitment to the
community and to our country that we have. The local Lodge was chartered to help us stand united;
UNITED and ORGANIZED!
